Upcoming OTAN Activities – Week of April 17

OTAN provides activities and resources to support our adult education colleagues. (All times listed are Pacific Standard Time)


Monday, April 17, 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM | Canvas Q & A for Teachers & Administrators
Canvas Expert can be asked questions regarding generating reports, viewing teacher courses, and any other support questions you may have as a Canvas Administrator, teacher or Lead.

Wednesday, April 19, 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM | Advancing Canvas Skills: Student Experience
As administrators and instructors it is always helpful to know what our students will encounter on Canvas. The Student Experience will provide the perspective of a student as they become oriented to the Canvas interface. We will demonstrate the course interaction as a student highlighting communication, assignments, assessments, and progress tracking.

Wednesday, April 19, 4:00 PM - 5:30 PM | Creating Instructional Videos
Participants will learn everything they need to know to create instructional videos, including the step-by-step process, research-based best practices, and pro tips for saving time and money. Presenter: Samantha Madayag, Oakland Adult and Career Center

Thursday, April 20 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM | Spotlight on Simultaneous Instruction
In this session, find out what’s working at North Valley Occupational Center as teachers experiment with Simultaneous Instruction. Hear from students as they describe why having the flexibility to attend class either in-person or online is beneficial. Learn about technology options and how very low-cost technology works out for the instructors teaching in a "Simultaneous" setting. Guest speaker: Barry Bakin

Friday, April 21, 2:30 PM - 4:00 PM | Open Educational Resources 102 – Intermediate
Participants will explore how OERs can contribute to educational equity, diversity, and inclusion in their classrooms. OERs can support Anti-Racist teaching practices and give students a sense of belonging while supporting steps toward closing equity gaps. Presenter: Diana Vera-Alba
