Adult Education Regional Consortia Addressed in AEO and OTAN Newsletters

The fall issues of two popular newsletters, Adult Education Matters, from the California Department of Education (CDE) Adult Education Office (AEO), and our own OTAN Online Connection are now available. In both newletters you will find important information about adult education in California, training opportunities and stories highlighting students and educators.

In her State Director's message, Patricia Terry addresses Assembly Bill 86 and the future of adult education in California. "These next two years will be critical ones for the future of adult education in the State of California. With the passage of Assembly Bill 86, we stand on the precipice of a new structure for adult education programming." She adds that the Adult Education Office views "the Adult Education Consortium Program as a springboard to implement the mission of adult education as described in the Adult Education strategic plan, Linking Adults to Opportunity. In his message, OTAN Executive Director John Fleishman also addresses the restructuring of adult education. The development of new regional consortia "presents a great opportunity for adult education programs to leverage their unique resources and capabilities for creating new synergies. An obvious area for possible collaboration between K-12 and community college programs would be the use of technology for managing programs and for enhancing and extending learning opportunities."
