California Adult Education Archives at OTAN Preserves Twenty Years of Resources
Posted on 08/15/2012

For the past twenty years, OTAN has taken responsibility for the development and maintenance of the California Adult Education Archives, which are currently housed at the Sacramento County Office of Education.
Managed and maintained by Linda L. West, Archives and Information Specialist as well as former Director at OTAN, the Adult Education Archives contain over 2,000 cataloged items and eleven special collections. Resources include history, research, evaluation reports, curricula, staff development and assessment materials, CDE handbooks, working notebooks of adult education leaders, sample products from local education agencies, and much more. These materials are a record of adult education in California and are a valuable resource for staff development at both state and national level, particularly in light of shrinking resources for online archives.
A project is currently underway to digitize this collection. Many items are now available online in Abobe PDF format. If an electronic version of the item is available, the bibliographic record will be noted with a link to the pdf file.
You can also find the Adult Education Reference Library, Online Documents and the VESL and Workplace Clearinghouse in the OTAN library.
Other historical and current resources can be found at:
- Finding Aid for Special Collections: Finding aids allow users to search the contents of special collections, and then contact the library to see the actual items. The special collections linked here are housed at OTAN.
- California Adult Education History: Links to a print history published by the CA Department of Education, as well as transcripts and some audio files of 29 oral history interviews.
- LINCS Resource Collection: Online instructional resources, informed by research, for use by adult educators and Publications that include newsletters and research reports.
- Eric Clearinghouse on Adult, Career and Vocational Education Archive, preserved by CALPRO after it was no longer funded in 2003, provides a wealth of information for adult educators, including the ERIC Digests.
