Organizational Changes Within the California Department of Education - Adult Education Office

Posted on 08/08/2014

Important organizational changes have taken place within the California Department of Education. With the retirement of Patricia Terry, manager of the Adult Education Office (AEO), Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson has made the decision to move the AEO out of the Coordinated Student Support and Adult Education Division (CSSAED) under the direction of Gordon Jackson and into the Career and College Transition Division (CCTD) under the leadership of Russell Weikle. The CCTD is part of the Instruction and Learning Support Branch (ILSB).

The work of the AEO is more closely aligned with the work being done in the CCTD and ILSB. Their work with Carl Perkins funds, development of career pathways, and other workforce initiatives fits well with the AEO and will enhance the provision of quality service for adult learners.

The organizational shift became effective on Monday, July 28, 2014. No interruption of services to the field is expected. Staffing assignments and contact information will remain the same except for the Division Director who is now Russell Weikle.

This change is expected to improve communication within CDE and facilitate enhancement of relationships with the field.

Questions about the change should be directed to Mr. Weikle by phone at 916-445-2652 or by e-mail at RWeikle@cde.ca.gov.
