OTAN Webinars - Online Curriculum Series

OTAN is offering a series of three webinars, each focused on different online curriculum suggested by our OTAN Advisory Committee members. This is the first in the series and will introduce the following online curriculum vendors:

Part 1, March 21, 2014 at 12:00 PM

Apex Learning offers comprehensive courses in math, science, English, social studies, world languages, and electives which meet high school California graduation requirements. Courses are designed to be completed for original credit or credit recovery and are used extensively in California by Public Schools including Adult Schools.

Aztec: 2014 GED® Prep Solution is a computer-based instructional program available through online, stand-alone, and network delivery that features lessons specifically written for the new GED® test. The program includes diagnostics, in-depth lessons, extensive practice, and post-testing aligned to the Common Core State Standards and Depth of Knowledge criteria identified by the GED® Testing Service.

Edmentum offers a variety of innovative solutions spanning a multitude of program areas to empower 21st century teaching and learning. Information will be provided about Plato Courseware, College & Career, and GED preparation solutions.

Ascend Math provides the power of highly-acclaimed math tutorials, personalized learning plans, and a continuous assessment and management system to quickly increase your students' math level. Ascend Math does not require Java or Flash and is perfect for tablets and smartphones.

Burlington English offers online adult ESL courses, robust career extension modules, and digital readers, with full support for classroom instruction. The newest program, English in America, is CASAS-aligned, EL Civics-based thematic curriculum, and is a perfect match for the CASAS COAPPs. The program may be used as a stand alone, as a blend with classroom teaching, or via distance learning. Data analyses and performance reports for teachers and administrators are included.

Cyber High has an interactive, engaging online high school curriculum aligned with the California State and Common Core State Standards. Most of the core courses are UC a-g approved. Cyber High also offers many electives and CAHSEE preparation courses, all infused with multimedia, critical thinking, and school-to-work skills.

Career Ready 101 offers an integrated approach to exploring careers and their skill requirements, building workplace skills using KeyTrain®, and creating life-literacy with such skills as financial awareness and job searching. The program leads users to certification with WorkKeys® assessments and the National Career Readiness Certificate.

McGraw-Hill will be explaining about Common Core Achieve Online, which is an all-in-one-platform with assessment and instruction in Reading and Writing, Math, Science, and Social Studies for the 2014 GED®, TASC™, or HiSET™. The scope of program and instruction is built upon the Common Core and the Office of Career, Technical and Adult Education's (OCTAE) College and Career Readiness Standards. The focus is on Evidence-Based Reading Instruction and Webb's Depth of Knowledge. Exercises include scaffolded instruction and practice to support increased Depth of Knowledge.

The Write Stuff is an online/blended learning writing course designed to prepare Adult Education English as Second Language (ESL) students to transition to community college to pursue their academic or career goals. Hosted by OTAN, The Write Stuff uses the Moodle Learning Management System and was funded through a grant from Silicon Valley Community Foundation.
