Learn2 Earn

Learn2Earn External link opens in new window or tab is an exciting effort designed to remove barriers for anyone who wants to get their GED, train for a new career, or even obtain a college education. The effort is a partnership among numerous local organizations such as the Fresno Housing Authority, both public and private educational institutions, and Mayor Ashley Swearengin.

How does Learn2Earn work?

The effort believes "It's Possible" to have upward mobility and to strive for whatever an individual hopes to achieve. The goal of Learn2Earn is to help anyone who seeks to return to school to finish their high school education or to advance their training to aid in opening the doors of unlimited opportunities; but, it takes the individual to start the process.

The steps to creating the education on-ramp are:

  1. Anyone interested in learning more about Learn2Earn or to begin the process can call 211 to talk to a Learn2Earn agent and participate in a brief survey. External link opens in new window or tab
  2. Upon completion of the survey, the agent will transfer the caller to an education advisor.
  3. The education advisor will review the survey the individual completed with the agent and conduct an initial screening to help assess educational goals and develop an education plan.
  4. At that point, the education advisor will introduce the individual to an academic counselor at one or more educational institutions best suited for the individual. This process also includes financial aid discussions as well as addressing any barriers the individual faces in reaching their goals.
  5. Enrollment in a program.

Education and training fairs

These fairs are scheduled several times per year, in targeted geographic areas within the City of Fresno. Generally, the fairs are held at area school sites or community centers.

The fairs have been designed to give participants the following opportunities:

  • To participate in an introductory workshop explaining what Learn2Earn is and how the program works.
  • To be a part of an interactive Career Exploration Workshop designed to help participants get a better understanding of what kinds of jobs are available, and the training that will be involved in these types of jobs.
  • A chance to visit with more than 20 local educational institutions to gather basic information on programs available.
  • To participate in group interviews with education advisors from Learn2Earn to help guide the direction of the education on-ramp.

Tracking and follow-up

The education advisors are required to monitor the process of their assigned case loads to ensure their clients' success.
