US Conference on Adult Literacy

ProLiteracy has announced the United States Conference on Adult Literacy (USCAL Conference) in Houston, Texas, November 2-5, 2011. Former U.S. first lady Barbara Bush will deliver the keynote address, on November 3.

The USCAL Conference seeks to create successful collaborations among literacy providers and recipients, and actively encourages learner participation in the Conference.  There will be a series of workshops designed especially for adult learners as well as invaluable networking opportunities throughout the conference.

To support this participation among adult learners, a limited number of partial learner scholarships will be available.  The scholarship amount is a total of $400 per award winner, of which $255 will be for conference registration and meal fees at the point of conference registration. The balance of $145 will help defray travel costs and will be provided on a reimbursement basis after the conference. The learner scholarships are due by September 30, 2011.

Only one student per organization may be awarded a scholarship. Applications will be reviewed by members of ProLiteracy’s National Student Advisory Council.

Learners who apply for scholarships are asked not to register for the conference at this time. Detailed registration information will be provided along with award notification.

For more information go to conference details, where providers can also still register for the Conference.
