New Distance Learning Coordinator

OTAN is very happy to announce the appointment of Penny Pearson as the new Distance Learning Coordinator. Penny has been with OTAN as a Project Specialist II, managing our Moodle course management service and our online meeting services, as well as multiple other responsibilities. In her new capacity, she will be responsible for the Online Teaching Academy, the development and piloting of sharable Moodle courses, the online Distance Learning Forum, and she will be one of the coordinators of the Technology and Distance Learning Symposium at Hacienda La Puente on February 25-6, 2011.

Penny has a deep knowledge of online instruction, course development, and especially the ins and outs of Moodle, and has been training teachers on Moodle for several years. OTAN is now hosting close to 300 courses on our Moodle server, and Penny has been a good resource for the many adult education teachers who are moving all or part of their curriculum to an online environment. She has been providing training and project coordination at OTAN since 2007. Previously she taught computer courses at Winterstein Adult School in the San Juan district, as well as teaching a technology course for vocational instructors at California State University Sacramento.

Now Hiring Project Specialist

Penny's previous position, Project Specialist II, Technology Projects, is now posted on the Sacramento County Office of Education Web site. The person in this position will manage and also provide OTAN workshops and webinars, along with a variety of other responsibilities, including making presentations at conferences, maintaining data, and writing reports.  For further information, contact Marian Thacher, Director, at 800-894-3113 or mthacher@otan.us.
