Adult Education Content Standards Warehouse

The Adult Education Content Standards Warehouse has added a new set of Standards-in-Action (SIA) materials for professional development.  These materials, Observing SIA Videos, depict teachers in a variety of Adult Education classrooms, including English as a Second or Other Language (ESOL), mathematics and reading, as they model standards-based instruction in authentic settings.

The videos are designed as training and observation tools to allow instructors to gain and share a clear understanding of what effective practice is in these settings. Classroom observations are a hallmark of standards-based instructional leadership and they are a key method program administrators can use to monitor the consistency of instructional practices and their fidelity to standards.

Each short video can be viewed online, and a downloadable "Video Viewing Guide" includes the SIA Observation Tool to guide instructors through effective observation and training sessions. The entire set of SIA materials – including the videos – now resides on the Adult Education Content Standards Warehouse Website located at Observing SIA Videos, and is available at no cost. They may be used by individuals, in small or large group training sessions, and in both formal and informal settings.

Other resources found on this site include a list of Standards in different content areas, a Guide for Establishing Standards, Standards-In-Action materials and tools, and an extensive list of  Field Resources related to this topic.

The Adult Education Content Standards Warehouse is funded by the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Vocational and Adult Education, in order to support states in developing and using content standards to improve the quality of adult education programs.
