Older Worker Demonstration Grants

Posted on 01/08/2009

The U.S. Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration, has announced that approximately $10 million is available for Older Worker Demonstration Grants. Funds will be awarded to programs developing models for skill development in regional economies that recognize older workers as a valuable labor pool and include employment and training strategies aimed at connecting older workers to jobs in high growth and high demand industries.

The preferred applicants are “entities that represent the local workforce investment system.” Adult education programs with job training opportunities for older workers can contact their local Workforce Investment Board to investigate partnership opportunities, and to let them know that adult school career and technical education programs are innovative, have a long history, are taught by credentialed teachers, are based on curriculum standards, are available at no cost to qualified students, and are equipped to help older adults.

The full announcement is available on the DOL site, and the deadline for applications is February 19, 2009.
