Below are some of the opportunities in October to take an online workshop.
Professional Development:
Upcoming Online Workshops:
June 13, 2008 — Google
Goodies with
Melinda Holt
Google is a search engine and so much more. There are a wide variety
of services offered by Google that are free and ready to use –
all you need to know is where they are and how to use them. This
workshop will detail Sketchup, Earth, iGoogle, Patents and a lot
of the other "goodies" within Google's Lab.
June 13, 2008 — Blogging
in the Classroom with
Barry Bakin
Blogging is not just a way to publish your ideas and thoughts
about everyday topics on the Internet. It can also be a very easy
way to provide your students with both traditional and Internet-based
assignments that they can access in class, the lab, or from home
or the public library. This workshop will guide you through the
steps of creating your own free blog that you can use with your
class, and your first blog post!
Face to Face, Hands-On Workshops at your school!
July 7, 2008 — Creating
Web Pages with Google Page Creator
Location: Santa Clara Adult Education
Participants will learn how to develop Web pages using tools from
Google, including entering text, creating links between their
pages and to other Web sites, and adding pictures/clipart. They
will also be exploring the use of Google Blogs. This workshop
has prerequisites.
Resources for Teachers:

Here are some great new links recently added to the OTAN site that might be useful to teachers who are interested in using the Internet with their students:
SparkNotes
SparkNotes will help students learn and practice basic skills, write a paper,
or study for a test. Each guide contains thorough summaries and insightful
critical analysis of a nearly endless range of subjects.
Calisphere
Calisphere is the University of California's free public gateway to a world
of primary sources. More than 150,000 digitized items — including photographs,
documents, newspaper pages, political cartoons, works of art, diaries, transcribed
oral histories, advertising, and other unique cultural artifacts — reveal
the diverse history and culture of California and its role in national and
world history.
This month's Web-Based Class Activity highlights the use of VoiceThread
for Instruction
VoiceThread is an online tool that can be used to deliver content online
or take class presentations, student collaboration and instructor feedback
to a higher level. Users can upload several types of media (images, documents,
and videos), narrate the media, and permit others to comment or collaborate
with verbally recorded comments, text comments or video comments.
